An Arctic Escape – Into the Wilds of Kiruna
Step beyond the ordinary and into a world untouched by tourism. This is not just a tour—it’s a journey into the heart of Swedish Lapland, where the silence is deep, the skies are alive, and time seems to stand still. With your own private guide, you’ll discover a hidden side of Kiruna, far from the crowds, where the wilderness welcomes you like an old friend.
Your adventure begins when your guide picks you up directly from your accommodation and brings you to a husky kennel unlike any other. This is the home of legendary musher Mats Petersson—where champion dogs, veterans of the world’s longest dog races, live and train. Here, you’ll get a rare glimpse behind the scenes of life in the Arctic Circle, meeting the dogs and learning how the kennels operate in one of the harshest and most beautiful places on Earth.
Around a crackling open fire, your guide will outfit you with warm, expedition-grade clothing before you set off into the snowy unknown. Traveling by snowmobile taxi, you’ll glide across frozen landscapes, winding through silent forests and over wide-open expanses, where the only sounds are the whispers of the wind and the soft crunch of snow beneath you.
Eventually, you’ll arrive at a remote wooden cabin—simple, rustic, and utterly magical. With no electricity and no other humans in sight, this is your Arctic sanctuary for the night. Nestled near a quiet river and surrounded by endless forest, the cabin offers a rare kind of stillness only found this far north.
Here, we light the sauna and prepare a hearty wilderness lunch. In the afternoon, relax in the warmth of the sauna, then cool off with a roll in the snow—an exhilarating Arctic tradition. As night falls, step outside and gaze at the vast northern sky. If the aurora forecast is promising, we’ll strap on snowshoes and venture into open terrain for the best possible view of the Northern Lights dancing overhead.
The next morning, we share a warm, cooked breakfast before beginning the scenic journey back through the winter wilderness. As we return to the world of roads and roofs, you’ll carry with you something rare: a true connection to the Arctic, and memories that will never fade.
